What I’m reading – August 2018

Back at the start of 2018, I set myself a mission to read 12 books throughout the year. Back at the start of 2018 I didn’t realise we would end up putting our apartment up for sale and, in doing so, that all the books I had ear-marked for reading would be stashed in cupboards and boxes to such an extent that I have no blooming clue where they are.

Funnily enough, putting your home up for sale is the sort of stressful life event that makes curling up and chilling out with a book even more appealing. Who doesn’t love a bit of book therapy when times are tough?

With that in mind, thank goodness for the library. The source of books and I can find and can borrow for free and that’s where I got my current gem of a book from.

We are all Completely Beside Ourselves by Karen Joy Fowler tells the tale of Rosemary who misses her sister who disappeared from her life some years ago, but not everything is what it seems… I’m only half-way through at present and I don’t want to give the plot away, but what I can say is it is written in a really engaging way. There’s something about it that reminds me of the writing of Harper Lee, although I can’t place my finger on exactly what. Fowler makes the mundane extraordinary to tell a story through the day-to-day rather than action-packed disasters. I can’t wait to find out what happens in the end.

What are you reading?
